The Parish Church of St Cuthbert of Lindisfarne, Castle Vale
Castle Vale is where about 10,000 people live on the northeastern edge of Birmingham in the English Midlands. It was built in the late 1960s on a former Royal Air Force airfield to accommodate people cleared from unsuitable housing in the Aston and Nechells districts of the city. Since then, Castle Vale has seen problems of its own but the last decade has seen much regeneration of the area with new housing and many new benefits for the community.
St Cuthbert’s Church has been part of the community since the beginning (although we only got our building in 1973). We aim to serve the community not only as a place of prayer and worship but also as a base for many other activities.
The Parish Church of St Cuthbert of Lindisfarne which has been at the heart of Castle Vale since 1973 - through all the changes that are still going on. It is not only home to the church but also to many organisations serving Castle Vale.
Castle Vale was built on the site of RAF Castle Bromwich. That heritage is very much a part of the community today, especially at St Cuthbert’s where we are home to the 605 (County of Warwick) RAAF Squadron’s Colour and War Memorial.
